In a speech the ex-general apologized
(sort of) for his “recent journey” as he put it (i.e. the sex scandal
and his downfall from CIA Director, orchestrated by the FBI), NOT for
overseeing Iraqi death squads set up by his military compadre
Col. James Steele. Or for protecting U.S. soldiers who committed war
crimes in Iraq.
Turns out that Petraeus sought out
Steele in El Salvador in the 1980s, when Steele was mentoring
Salvadoran fascist death squads.
