In a malicious act, Canada allowed smoke from over 900 wildfires to blow south into the U.S. This did not go unnoticed by president Trump, who complained bitterly about the "poisoning of our air."
In response to this outrageous behavior, yet another example of Canada "treating us very badly for a long time," America First President Donald Trump took decisive action.
On July 20 Trump declared the
imposition of 50% tariffs on a wide range of Canadian goods. The hammer
will come down in 30 days. But out of kindness, as Trump pointed out, he
is exempting Canadian fuel, fish, fertilizer and critical minerals.
[Stuff the U.S. really needs, in other words, which making more
expensive would hurt American companies and people.] Trump announced the
tariffs after threatening to sanction Canada for allowing its wildfire
smoke to blow south into the U.S. Trump also slammed Canada for unfairly
discriminating against U.S. autos, alcohol and dairy products. Which
must be true, because everything Trump says is true. Including "Canada
has been treating us very badly for many years," as has Europe, Mexico,
China, and "the world."
