Finally! A collision of interests among the reactionary factions of the Republican Party.
The
GOP (Gang Of Plunderers) represents broadly two groups: business,
especially big business (as do the Democrats) and so-called “social
conservatives.” “Social conservatives” consist of reactionaries,
fanatical religious fundamentalists of various Christian varieties,
jingoists, racists, homophobes, sexists, anti-abortion terrorists and so
on.
In Indiana, the GOP-controlled state legislature passed a
law legalizing discrimination against gays by businesses. Governor Mike
Pence insists that this so-called “Freedom of Religion” law is all about
protecting poor oppressed Christians, the overwhelming majority in the
U.S. who have great power.
But lots of people aren't buying. And
in a sign of the times, various large corporations, associations, and
even Governors of other states have announced quasi-boycotts of the
state. Their business and political interests mandate that they be
“inclusive” of gay people.
Thus the business side of the GOP is
finally colliding with the “traditionalist” side, that is, the socially
oppressive bigots and yahoos.
Pence is rushing to undo the damage with new legislation to “clarify” the Freedom To Discriminate law in Indiana.
Meanwhile
Arkansas, home of Bill Clinton, one of the most incredibly backward and
reactionary states in the U.S., is rushing to pass its own “Religious
Freedom Protection” law.
The U.S. is already a semi-theocracy,
yet the religious fundamentalists carry on like they're being nailed to
crosses. Typical of all reactionaries, who have deep-seated persecution
complexes. (The Nazis did too. They imagined the Jews were doing
horrible things to them.)
