Latest Futile Attempt By Obama To Appease Reactionaries

This time, it’s “social conservatives,” those who insist on imposing their repressive sexual mores on other people, who Obama wants to like him  [Presumably, as with all Obama’s words and actions these days, this is calculated to help reelect his sorry ass. For a smart man, he sure is dumb sometimes.]

The issue is the use of heavy dosage birth control bills to prevent pregnancy taken up to five days after sexual intercourse (the so-called “morning after pill”). This has been available over the counter, without a doctor’s prescription, for years, but only for women 17 and older. (A certain IUD can also be used in this manner, according to the Planned Parenthood website.)

The petition of the manufacturer of the so-called Plan B One-Stop brand to allow OTC sales to all women has been belatedly approved by the FDA Commissioner, who was then promptly overruled by her boss, hack politician and political nomenklatura member Kathleen Sebelius, former Governor of the heavily anti-abortion state of Kansas. (Kansas is where the FBI allowed an anti-abortion terrorist to murder Dr. George Tiller, which successfully shut down the next to last abortion clinic in the state.)

Back in 2003, two FDA advisory panels  recommended that this ridiculous restriction be lifted. For eight years, first the Bush regime stalled, then the Obama regime dithered. Now (12/7/11) Obama’s hand-picked Secretary of “Health and Human Services,” rightwing Democrat Sebelius, overruled the FDA commissioner and ruled that teenagers still need prescriptions.

Presumably, this will stop them from having sex, I guess.

And of course the states have heaped punishing restrictions on teenagers needing abortion, like needing parental permission (so the parents can abuse, shriek at, punish, beat the girls) and so on. It’s part of the sexual control and repression of teenagers.

So what is a teenager supposed to do what? Pay for a doctor’s appointment, risk social opprobrium (imagine some small redneck town) and ostracism, harassment or worse, by religious fanatics (who are dominant in most of the U.S. geographically), social bluenoses, and malicious gossipy peers?

I suppose she could go to Planned Parenthood- if the local clinic hasn’t been shut yet by GOP attacks, an orchestrated nationwide-campaign by the U.S. Congress and GOP-controlled state legislatures instigated by anti-abortion fanatics. (Indiana had to be enjoined in court from blocking Federal funds for PP. That’s the state run by media-darling Governor Mitch Daniels, a career reactionary political operative who’s been doing damage since the Reagan regime.)
